Blog Post #9- Is Today's Society Too Sexy?

Society has changed majorly within the past decade or so. From certain words that are acceptable today to more explicit and violent movies that make millions because they catch the interest of many. This brings me to the topic of discussion: Is the sexualisation of mainstream society a problem? In my opinion, the answer is a definite yes.

It all starts off with acceptable exploitation of girls in music videos, especially in the hip-hop category where the majority of videos have that one girl that is meant to be though as "sexy". Also, shows that revolve around a sexual nature are becoming more common during daytime TV. For example, Two and a Half Men and even animated comedies such as Family Guy are directing jokes at people that are meant to be interoperated in a sexual way. Companies do not care about the negative messages that are being sent to their viewers, all they care about are money and ratings. Since society has become sexualized, these shows sore in ratings because they are enjoyed by many.

Have you been listening to the radio lately? Or music from the past few years? If you have than you would have probably realised that the song that was caught in your head has a sexual meeting and is indeed written purposely to have a double-entendre. Many songs are written about sex because the artist has been brainwashed with society to think sexually.

The last medium of sexualisation is the easily assessable adult content on the internet. This is one of the most impacting mediums of them all.

Sure, society has been sexualized by the radio, songs, movies, music videos TV shows and the internet, but what is the major problem with all of this? The problem is that it leaves the listener/viewer wanting more. It all starts with a sex joke and leads to a person wanting more. In other words, they becoming over sexualized which can change the way a person thinks and acts in life. Not everyone has this problem, however it is getting worse and will not get better until the media finds a different way to entertain us "cleanly". In conclusion, sexualisation in modern society is a major problem and its evident in many ways. We need to censor ourselves and what we get influenced from. We need to make a change for next eras society.

  1. Human beings are "social animals", and their habits, desires, hopes, fears, and beliefs are shaped by the various societies into which they are born. This is also true of their sexual attitudes and behaviors. People are born with a certain potential for sexual expression, but this potential can be realized in a great variety of ways. Today we see, human traffickers, and prostates and men who get turned on by the more darker forms of sex. This all comes from when they originally were exposed to it. If exposed early, what is considered "normal" no longer appeals to them. The easy access to porn is a key contributor to why some men are the way they are today, something certainly needs to be done about it.
